What a week! Never enough hours in the day…Rescue is hard and sometimes you wonder why you do it, this week has reminded us exactly why it’s worth all the hard work and heartache along the way!!
- Our little fox cub, who has now been named Bobbit, is doing really well! He absolutely loves his food and is starting to open his eyes, he’s believed to be about 12 days old at the point of writing this post.
- The hedgehog with the bad chest has responded well to treatment from the vet and will be released next week!
- Gill and Tracey got a warm welcome on a visit to the Manningtree Rotary Club to revive our donation and say thanks for their continued support of our work with a little talk about who we are and what we do.
- Our swan got over it’s bumps and bruises and was ready to be released on Friday(see image)
- Morning call for a muntjac fawn that was found the night before but not called in till the morning, only about 7-8 weeks old, in a really bad way due to head trauma, was only semi conscious and couldn’t even lift her head…Hopes of survival were very low for the little girl named Meadow…Put on a warming blanket, given fluid via tube and settled in the dark we really thought this was goodbye. A few hours later, to all our joy and surprise she was not only alive but up standing too! Release of muntjacs isn’t allowed and without a mother she’d have no hope anyway so she was taken to Hopefields, a licenced sanctuary, they had previously taken Evie the muntjac hand reared by Gill, who completely adopted little Meadow when she arrived! - Ending the week with Gill having a big restock of all the cupboards of food and equipment while training up a new volunteer too-very excited that our microscope has finally arrived, Kenny has completed the training to operate this so once he’s opened it and all set up we shall post some pictures next week!
