Well ladies and gents, spring is most definitely on the way at last! The sun is finally feeling warmer and the days sure are looking longer too…As much as we celebrate this time of year for the seasonal changes, we also brace ourselves for the huge inevitable influx of calls we will receive. Spring is a very busy, stressful time for us here at WeCare but as always we will do all that we can!

So, what have we dealt with this week?

Gill took a scenic walk after a swan “stuck in the mud” spotted by 2 callers passing on a train. A swan was spotted having a wash and believed to be the guilty “stuck” culprit that was just having a mud bath!

Call out to a tiny fox cub, with eyes not even open yet! Often the mother will take cubs one at a time from the old sett to a new location so the caller was advice to leave the cub be and monitor for mums return but due to the rain the cub was soaked and very cold too so was then brought in to be dried, warmed and fed with the intent of returning once the world was quiet to try and reunite him-unfortunately no sign of return from mum that night so back with us again he came.

Another swan call out down at the Mistley walls, this one struggling to walk but in the road! Upon spotting Gill, it did get up and waddle off but was still caught and checked over as a precaution. It was a little sore but otherwise well, most likely from fighting over the ladies/land as it is nesting season. While there, Gill saw 2 cases of people feeding from their cars-please don’t do this as it encourages them to approach/enter the road in search for further food which can/will cause injury and accidents, resulting in more avoidable work for us.

Ending the week on another busy, all in one day;

Another concern for a swan at the walls-this one was checked and released on site,a trapped bird-freed then brought in for rest before same day release, a hedgehog via the vets-being treated for lungworm with a very rattly chest hoping it will improve otherwise it will return for an x-ray, all while still caring for our fox cub-who, at this stage of the week, we haven’t been able to reunite with mum but is now taking a bottle much better and our pigeon squab-who is growing fast and can now eat and drink on its own!
